HI, I am looking to buy a Burke Millrite vertical mill and am looking at a model MV1. I've also seen MVN models for sale and wonder what the difference between them is. The quill feed is by a hand wheel, not a lever; I've read somewhere that wheel feed is better for brass and that is 99% of what I work with.

The table was 36" long, and 8" wide, with a travel of 25" on the x-axis and about 10 inches on the Y-axis (with my big ass vise in it). The machine came with a 3 HP inverter to change the 220 single phase to three phase and the guy wanted $1500 for it. The only catch to the ad was that the millrite was located in his basement.

I do like the Millrite, but I have decided to go with a smaller machine owned by a coworker, a Clausing 8530. (He has a giant space and a Bridgeport.) The Clausing is easier to move and fits my space better. I had been worried about the Morse taper #2 spindle, but I see that a lot of tooling is available. Thanks for the comments and advice.

They are rigid for their size and weight. Those mills were made with at least four different spindles, R8, B&S 9, NMTB30, and others. There were also a lot of other options. A three phase motor would be good to control spindle speed with (edit: by using a VFD), giving a wider range of infinitely adjusted speeds.
